Works for the wide foot - My husband has really wide feet shoes that do not have sufficient support and cause blisters. These are wonderful. He is wearing them without complaint. Zappos is great because I bought 11 pair of shoes and returned 9 of them. I love Zappos.

New Balance stability shoes that have Rollbar with TPU post - I got my shoes on a Tuesday afternoon after ordering them on a Friday afternoon. They fit perfectly, very true to size. I ordered them for stability to see if I could wear them without my orthotic inserts, which I have worn now for two decades due to extreme pronation of my feet. Also my arches fell about ten years ago. My orthotics are built up a LOT on the inside of the device to compensate for the pronation. I have had the New Balance 854s about 2½ weeks now and have found them to keep my feet extremely stable with very little if any pronation. I have been able to wear them so far without inserting my orthotics in place of the removable insert that comes with the shoe. This makes wearing the shoe a lot more comfortable because this insert has some padding, whereas my orthotics do not. Plus this could save me about $400 if I don't have to go to a podiatrist and buy another pair of orthotics when these wear out, or at the very least send them in to get them recovered, which costs about $100. The New Balance Rollbar with TPU post technology is great. It does a great job of keeping my foot from pronating. I am going to order a pair of brown and a pair of black stability New Balance shoes to wear with slacks and jeans when the weather get cold. Right now I am just wearing my white New Balance 854s with jean shorts all summer.

Save your money - These are great looking shoes and the fit is very good. Bad feature is the sole and heel have a solid plastic insert and doesn't flex. It's like walking in plastic ski boots or strapping a 2 by 4 to your sole. Had to return them.

New Balance MX854 - I have previously owned a pair of these shoes, and have been very pleased overall (with the exception of price). I bought two pairs with this order as I have custom orthotics, and it took me months to find a pair of shoes that were comfortable with my insoles. Many shoes have an arch built into the sole that causes a pressure point on the arch of my foot when my custom insoles are put in. Others do not have removable insoles. Didn't really have a choice, but to pay the price for this shoe. Zappos’ price was the same as local shoe stores, but they came overnight, instead of a 2-week special order. I wish there were more affordable options on the market--the orthotics are expensive enough!

Too small - I usually buy the New Balance 1221 and wish I had this time. There is no way the MX854 is a 6E. Plus the right shoe is smaller than the left.
